Help with complaining

I hope your birth is all you hoped it would be and more, but sometimes things happen that you want to complain about or want help understanding.

If that happened to you I am sorry you didn’t get the birth you wanted or that things did not go as you planned.  It can be very helpful to process your experience in a safe place, often with someone unrelated to the original incident and in a neutral location whilst you decide what you want to do next.  Sometimes family and friends are upset by what you went through too and struggle to listen to you talk and talk.  That is normal, and it can really help to tell your story to someone who is not so emotionally close to you, and who can listen without feeling their own pain over your experience.

I offer a listening service, and support with obtaining medical notes and support whilst you go through them.  Often this is enough to help you reach a state of peace with your experiences, but if it isn’t I can then sign post you to other helpful services and help you to get them, or support you through a complaint if that is what you wish to do.

If you want to know more about complaining about maternity services, AIMS has a really good short guide, available here.
